Tom Bissell was the victor on Day One of PDC UK Q-School with the floorlayer from Dudley in the West Midlands producing all the hallmarks of what the event is all about.

Bissell saw off an established name but one looking for a resurgence in Bradley Brooks in the final as well as the highly fancied Tom Sykes, John Henderson and Jarred Cole en route to joining the elite.

From playing in the pub and in ADC Vault tournaments, he goes from mixing with. good company in his Super League teammates such as Reece Colley to Luke Humphries, Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen. As expected, he was elated and pretty shocked to win through.

"I've been overwhelmed all week to be fair. So just to get here today just to win a few games would be great. It's been really overwhelming but I got through yesterday just to get some points and one game at a time really today," said Bissell to PDC.

"All day I've had to produce, been last dart all day. I'm just really chuffed and overwhelmed."

Coming from nowhere, little was known of Bissell but it was backing from his teammates in Super League that gave him the kick to go to Q-School. "I'm a floorlayer from Dudley in the West Midlands. Probably been playing about 10 years so I've just played a bit of county and Super League. Just took my shot and it's obviously paid off."

"They've always been backing me. I've always been a bit humble with it. Never backed myself and today I've had to and it's paid off. It's unbelievable."

But how do you go from that to Littler and co, Bissell said he was a bit awe struck when he started Q-School but he knows he will be ready. "Walk in the room Monday, there were some great players here all week so I'm like I know him, I know him. But I think I'm going to be ready for it."

Also given the ProTour is mostly during the week, work is no issue given he is self employed anyway and he will juggle his day to day work with his new found darting career.

"I'm self employed I've got my own business so it's up to me now what I'll do. I've got some good backing so I'll be alright."
