Gerwyn Price will enter Friday's qualifying tournament for the
Grand Slam of Darts after all. 'The Iceman' is the highest ranked player on the world rankings after Jonny Clayton who has not yet secured a spot for the major tournament in Wolverhampton.
The Welshman did not originally plan to enter the qualifying tournament for the Grand Slam of Darts. After his defeat at the European Darts Championship, Price reported on his Instagram that he was only going to play the Players Championship Finals and the World Darts Championship this year.
''A nice month off now and 2 events left of 2024. Hopefully a positive finish as well,'' Price wrote at the time. However, the former world champion is on the entry list and has been spotted by several attendees in Leicester, where the tournament is being played.
In the past, Price has been quite successful at the Grand Slam of Darts. The former world champion managed to win this tournament in 2018, 2019 and 2021. In 2022, he reached the quarterfinals, the result he must therefore defend this year in the world rankings.
In addition to Price, players such as Nathan Aspinall, Jonny Clayton, Joe Cullen, Damon Heta, Chris Dobey, Daryl Gurney, Danny Noppert, Dirk van Duijvenbode, Ross Smith, James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld are also participating in the qualifying tournament. There are eight starting spots here.
