Vincent van der Voort has been known for years to have a very outspoken opinion. He showed that again in the podcast 'Darts Draait Door'. In a new edition of this podcast of Sportnieuws.nl Van der Voort talked about the special, Borussia Dortmund themed shirt Jermaine Wattimena wore during the past European Championship.
"Yes, it was nice yellow yes," said a cynical Van der Voort. "It's a personal choice and you see it more often these days. That players in Premier League Darts, for example, have a different shirt for each city. Personally, I don't really like it, but from Jermaine I can have it."
The shirt change seemed too for Wattimena, as he reached a first ever major final at the past European Championship, although he eventually lost out 11-3 to Ritchie Edhouse in that final. Afterwards, pride prevailed with the 36-year-old Dutchman, who has been yearning for this success for some time.
"He has been looking for recognition for years. That he belongs and is mentioned among the contenders. That it then now falls into place with a Dortmund shirt like this is great for him. But I myself have never played in such a special shirt," Van der Voort laughed. Still, there is one shirt for which Van der Voort is willing to make an exception. "But the one shirt I want to wear is not allowed. I just want to be in an Ajax shirt, forever. That would be the nicest thing, but unfortunately that's not allowed."
