Luke Littler remains unstoppable. Three days after his victory in the Premier League in Brighton and a week after his triumph at the UK Open, the 18-year-old world champion added yet another title to his impressive record. In Wieze, he defeated home favorite Mike De Decker 8-5, successfully defending his title at the
Belgian Darts Open.
With this victory, Littler now has 13 PDC titles in 14 months to his name and extends his unbeaten run to 14 matches. Afterwards, he left no doubt: Belgium deserves a spot on the Premier League calendar. "I’m very happy to retain the title in front of these great fans," Littler said. "I said it last year there should be a Premier League here."
The reigning world champion, who also recently won the UK Open, is in the form of his life. His statistics in the final were once again impressive: with a 53 percent finish percentage and high scoring ability, he was just too good for De Decker. “I think on my throw I was really good but Mike on his throw he was good at times. But I had to get in the lead and hit the winning double."
Despite his overwhelming win streak, Littler remains humble. "I said after the World Championships if I don’t win anything throughout the whole year then I’m still a World Champion," he explained. "But I’m obviously happy to win the UK Open and come back here and do it back-to-back. Now it’s ProTours and back to the Premier League."
There will not be much time to rest for Littler. On Monday, 'The Nuke' will fly back to the United Kingdom, where an immediate transit to Leicester awaits him. There, the next two Players Championship tournaments are scheduled for March 11 and 12. Next, the 18-year-old teenage sensation must move on to Nottingham, where the sixth round of the Premier League Darts will be played on Thursday night. Currently, Littler holds the second spot in the Premier League standings with two points behind leader Luke Humphries.
