Last week the World Grand Prix was held in Leicester. In that tournament, every leg must be started with a double, but Raymond van Barneveld is not in favor of that.
Van Barneveld, a losing finalist at the World Grand Prix in 2008 and 2009, was a guest on Viaplay as an analyst and gave his opinion on the format. "When the PDC started up in the mid-1990s, they wanted to do some new things, including this tournament. But I think the format is totally out of date, you also don't need to look at the averages because they are irrelevant in this tournament," said the 55-year-old Dutchman.
Excitement
Still, the tournament in its current form is extremely popular with the public. "Yes, it's definitely fun to watch," Barney continued. "But in many legs, the tension is also immediately gone when someone misses a lot of doubles."
