Van den Bergh is on debut in the tournament; he will aim to make it a dream opening salvo at the Marshall Arena after a tie which saw him hit a 99 average and 11 180's.
It was one way traffic for the Belgian to begin the tie; as he surged into a 4-1 lead at the first interval. From there, it was an 8-2 lead with a 102.5 average and five 180's as he put the onus on Lewis to make a comeback.
He went closer to the finishing line at 10-4 up despite Lewis trying to forge his way back into the tie; this continued with Lewis winning the mini-session 3-2 to cut the gap to five at 10-5 down but there was still a mountain to climb.
Van den Bergh mounting the early lead helped as despite Lewis pegging it back to 12-8; he was always ahead as he looked to reach the finishing line. This saw him at 14-8 up but the biggest period of sustained pressure was to come as Lewis made it 14-11 from 8-2 down.
In the requisite leg though he missed a dart at double 20 and Van den Bergh went one away at 15-11 up. He missed a match dart from there but still concluded the tie from there in the next leg to move into the semi-finals and survive the late comeback.
