Michael van Gerwen may not be through to the Quarter-Finals of the World Matchplay but there will still be Dutch representation in the form of Vincent van der Voort.
Van der Voort eased past
Daryl Gurney in an 11-5 win to reach his first Quarter-Final in the event since 2009 averaging 97.6 in the process as his impressive start to proceedings continues.
He started exceptionally going 4-0 up including a break of throw in the first leg with a 12-darter in a sign of proceedings to come.
At the first break, he was almost halfway home at 5-0 up against Gurney averaging 104 in the process. He said earlier in the week how he dislikes Blackpool and based off his continued displays so far that has been shown.
'Superchin' finally got up and running with a 180 and double 12 for a 13-dart leg at 5-1 down but as he tried to build momentum this was stalled as Van der Voort went four clear again at 6-2 up.
Another break was opened up at 7-2 up as he edged towards the finishing line. Another break saw him go 9-2 up and he was soon one away. But could he close it out? He missed a match dart and Gurney was suddenly only 10-4 behind albeit a long way back from 'The Dutch Destroyer'.
A hold of throw followed with Van der Voort back on 90 to win saw it at 10-5. Van der Voort's wait wasn't prolonged though with a 94 checkout sealing the deal in a 11-5 victory.
