Michael van Gerwen and
Gerwyn Price will renew their rivalry shortly in Sheffield in the final of Night 14 of
Premier League Darts action in a victory for the former which 100% secures his spot in the play-offs.
Van Gerwen saw off in-form Michael Smith who was on a superb winning streak and looked to continue this into the final at 4-1 up.
But with the perils of the Premier League, Van Gerwen returned to the foray and snatched it in a decider 6-5. He stopped the rot at 2-4 down with only an 88 average.
From there, he continued to stay on Smith's coattails and when 'Bully Boy' fluffed his lines, he was there to mop up at 4-4. He took the lead at 5-4 up and despite Smith sending it all the way, Van Gerwen having the throw proved decisive.
While for Price, it is a return to form for 'The Iceman' who is only into his second weekly final of the season after winning in Belfast with his time in the darting roadshow dovetailing after that.
But he will have a chance to revive playoff hopes when facing Van Gerwen. He saw off Joe Cullen who was in his first game of the night after receiving a bye 6-3.
This featured a 100.8 average, four 180's and 60% on the doubles from the Welshman but can he deny the in-form Green Machine his first weekly title in a while?
