The opening semi-final is confirmed on Night 10 of
Premier League Darts action with
Michael van Gerwen set to face off against last week's winner in
Jonny Clayton shortly in Birmingham.
Van Gerwen once again faced
Chris Dobey who holds a good record over the Green Machine as of late but despite averaging 106 himself was only good enough for a 6-2 defeat in an utter epic to begin the night. It also featured nine 180's between them.
To begin the tie, it was an ominous start from MVG who hit two 180's and a 101 checkout to claim the opening leg.
He went two clear from there at 3-1 up averaging 107 and hitting a 73 checkout. Dobey finally got another leg but was broken at 5-2 as MVG went one leg away and he ended a sublime display with a 125 checkout.
Next is Clayton who kicked off his quest for back-to-back with a superb 6-4 win over
Nathan Aspinall who averaged 100 and hit four 180's but missed chances to force a decider with 'The Ferret' sealing victory and a tie against Van Gerwen.
These missed chances include a missed nine-dart finish which he made a hash of and then this allowed Clayton to sneak through without the need of a decider.
