Van Gerwen frustrated with performance despite victory over Razma: "My performance has to be better if I want to win the title"

Michael van Gerwen was frustrated with his display despite winning through against Madars Razma 6-4 in his opener in the International Darts Open.

Razma didn't take chances against Van Gerwen and as a result, Mighty Mike slipped through despite not being at his best. His next tie will see him face Andy Hamilton and he admitted he needs to be better.

"I felt so relaxed tonight, maybe I was too relaxed," said Van Gerwen.

"I didn't turn up today, I don't think my focus was there. I can't play any worse that this tomorrow.

"I want to do better tomorrow. My performance has to be better if I want to win the title."
