Michael Smith has added another title to his collection for this season with the US Darts Masters joining a double ProTour triumph and recently a Premier League night and the Dutch Darts Championship as he downed Michael van Gerwen in a truly epic win.

After going 4-3 down, Smith emerged from the break to sweep Van Gerwen in a run of form that has been seen a lot as of late and he finally adds to his Shanghai Darts Masters title with glory in the Big Apple.
Van Gerwen had break darts in the opening leg but spurned them and Smith returned for a 1-0 lead. MVG levelled from there.
A 180 and 25 checkout saw him break though early on at 2-1. He consolidated that to open up a two-leg cushion at 3-1.
Smith finally produced his first maximum and despite missing the bull for a 121 checkout, he returned for double five to make it 3-2.
But Smith took back the break of throw to draw it level at 3-3 and he was throwing for a 4-3 lead. But Van Gerwen replied with a 130 checkout to hit straight back and make it 4-3 in his favour.
Smith hit back immediately with a 100 checkout and held throw with a 180 and 60 checkout to flip it in his favour at 5-4.

A 145 set up saw Smith sat ready and Van Gerwen missed the 12 segment by a distance going for 81 only for ‘Bully Boy’ to miss three darts to break.
MVG couldn’t get off the hook though and Smith hit double four to go 6-4 up and he was throwing to go one away. A superb 180 to leave 36 saw Smith hold and go one away.
Smith continued to pile in some special scoring as he left 81 after nine on Van Gerwen’s throw and he pinned double 13 to claim it.
