Van Gerwen hits a nine-dart finish in a major final for the first time at Players Championship Finals

Michael van Gerwen won the Players Championship Finals Sunday night in Minehead. The 33-year-old Dutchman also remarkably joined an illustrious list in the final by throwing a nine-dart finish.

For Van Gerwen it was his 45th major victory, but never before has he managed to throw a nine darter in a major final.

Taylor and Lewis

By the way, Van Gerwen was not the first player to throw a nine-dart finish in a major final. Earlier Phil Taylor (Premier League 2010) and Adrian Lewis (World Championship 2011) already did so.
