Van Gerwen impressed with an average of almost 105. "I went into the match with some nerves, everyone knows my past with Jelle. But then it is important to show your best darts. And that's what I did, I showed my muscles right from the start of the match and showed what I am made of", Van Gerwen told TOTO Dart Kings.
"These are short matches, it's important you make few mistakes and make the most of your chances", Van Gerwen continued. "So I'm proud of myself for performing so well. It was extra special because my daughter was in the audience."
In the next round Van Gerwen will take on Callan Rydz. "Callan is a very good player, but I'm certainly not scared of him. I'm feeling particularly good at the moment and have the feeling there's a lot more in the pipeline."
