Van Gerwen suffers defeat to Aspinall in Premier League

Michael van Gerwen has lost his unbeaten status in the Premier League Darts. The Dutchman lost to Nathan Aspinall (5-7) in Cardiff.

Aspinall broke the world number one's throw in the third leg as he took out 110 to lead. After six legs The Asp was 4-2 in front, but Van Gerwen managed to break back with a brilliant 10-dart leg.

Van Gerwen took over the lead in the ninth leg, but failed to take the lead again in the 11th leg. Mighty Mike was not out in six turns and Aspinall punished him as he hit tops to move one leg away from victory. The Stockport ace had the throw in the 12th leg and hit a 14-darter to cause a surprising victory over the three-time world champion.
