Gian van Veen has qualified for the second round at the
European Darts Grand Prix at the expense of Jermaine Wattimena. On Saturday in the second round, he faces another compatriot, namely Danny Noppert.
The two Dutchmen provided a high level in the early stages. Van Veen, for instance, threw a 138 finish to make it 2-1 with a 12-darter. Moments later, Wattimena threw a 12-darter in the fourth and sixth leg to level the score each time.
Van Veen then missed three chances for 4-3 in the seventh leg, after which Wattimena broke him via double 10. Van Veen, however, immediately broke back with a 13-darter. Both players then held throw necessitating a deciding leg. Van Veen neatly left 84 in the last leg after nine arrows and eventually finished it off with his fourth matchdart.
As
Pascal Rupprecht delighted the home crowd with victory over former Lakeside champion, Christian Kist who in the ninth leg broke to lead 5-4, but then squandered his break and lost 6-5.
Madars Razma, after an easy start, eventually had to put in a lot of effort to hold off Ritchie Edhouse. The Latvian dart player lost a 5-1 lead, but took the win in the decisive leg after surviving a matchdart.
