A two-time PDC World Darts Championship winner, Adrian Lewis is widely viewed as one of the most naturally talented players ever in the sport. One of the key aspects of Lewis's game at his peak, was the power scoring, helped by his almost effortless throwing style.
In a video posted by the MODUS Super Series on X, Lewis breaks down the intricacies and nuances of his throwing style. "I make some I'm straight. I'm not of those like 'MvG' (Michael van Gerwen), to have my foot like this (demonstrates on the oche). I just like to be straight," 'Jackpot' begins. "Then with the throw it's just back, forward and release really. That's basically all it's about."
"Everyone always talks about different grips and things like that but this is just how I've held it. It's comfortable like this and that's the most important part," Lewis continues, showcasing exactly how he positions the dart in his hand as he gets ready to throw.
In the modern game, there is also growing discussion about point length, especially since the likes of Luke Littler and Gian van Veen have emerged on the scene with their extra long points. For Lewis though, the standard 30mm is still more than suitable. "I think, with the longer points, your darts have to go in a lt a certain angle," he explains. "If they sit up a bit like myself, it's no good because you've got nothing to throw against. It suits more a player with a flat dart, that's my opinion at least, whether I'm right or not I don't know!"
After a near two year absence from the sport, Lewis is set to return to televised darting action in 2025 via the MODUS Super Series. For long-term fans of the sport, seeing Lewis back in full flow will be a very welcome sight!
