The PDC
World Darts Championship starts tomorrow and ahead of proceedings beginning, Matthew Edgar has made a number of videos which look ahead to the showpiece event.
In one of the videos, Edgar looks at five records that he thinks will never be broken again in the tournament.
First of all, he mentioned Steve Beaton's 31st consecutive World Championship appearance. The Bronzed Adonis hasn't missed a World Championship for 31 years in a row. Raymond van Barneveld, for example, is about to make his 29th World Cup appearance, but his run is not consecutive.
The youngest ever World Championship participant is Mitchell Clegg. The Australian was 16 years and 37 days old when he made his debut at the 2007 World Championship against Raymond van Barneveld. It is almost impossible to improve this record, as players have to be at least 16 years old to participate on the PDC circuit.
Adrian Lewis, at 25, is the youngest ever PDC World Champion. Edgar doesn't think there will be a player in the future who can match this. Phil Taylor won eight world titles in a row between 1995 and 2022 and even that will never happen again, Edgar thinks.
The fifth record that is mentioned is in the hands of Michael van Gerwen. During the 2017 World Darts Championships, he averaged 114.05 points over the length of 32 legs. That average is already a lot higher than the second World Championship average on the list, which with 111.21 which is in the hands of Phil Taylor.
