Chris Mason will be at the Alexandra Palace working once again for Talksport at the 2021/22 PDC
World Darts Championship.
Mason spoke to Online Darts recently and spoke about some of the runners and riders going into the showpiece tournament at the Alexandra Palace.
"I think about players like Ryan Searle, Peter Wright's going to be in the mix but when you think about that form he showed winning the World Matchplay, it was just blistering. It was MVG or Taylor esque the way he tore through the field but I think the tinkering is eventually catching up with him and he just doesn't look settled," he said to Online Darts.
"But a lot can change, it's fascinating. Maybe Rob Cross could win it again, he's showing signs of great form going into the World's. It's just a fascinating time to be a darts fan."
Sherrock thoughts
A topic on the lips of many is
Fallon Sherrock ahead of her return to the Alexandra Palace and Mason was effervescent of praise for the Milton Keynes ace.
"The way she finds a way to raise her game under the most extreme pressure. Remember on the floor, you can sort of hide away a little bit, not so much now with DartConnect. She reminds me very much of how Dimitri was, as soon as you put him under the lights, he would just find another level. Initially it was a one off and then it was just because of this and that, there comes a point where you've just got to hold your hands up, irrelevant of male or female. She is a wonderful darts player."
"You just don't want to be playing her. You can ask any of the top seeds. There's potential that she will earn her Tour Card by right and ranking and that would be an incredible achievement. I think she's got to make the third round."
Premier League inclusion for Sherrock and Anderson?
But would Mason put her in the Premier League? He like many said commercial wise, it is an easy decision.
"If they put her in commercially, it's a no-brainer. You've got to remember the PDC is a commercial business with shareholders, they are about making money. I can understand some players will be disappointed because someone's going to lose out to her position."
With the same going for Gary Anderson who despite not being at his best is still a draw.
"The ranking suggests he's there or thereabouts you know he's still in the top ten. Again we've got to go commercially, he's a huge huge name and he's a very popular player."
Mace the Ace returns
Personally Mason returned to action at the World Seniors qualifier which showed some form for 'Mace the Ace'.
"It was nice to just get a run out and play some darts because I've not played for a long time. I can't moan about being busy, I'm very fortunate I get lots of work. I did try and grab half an hour here and an hour there, it weren't ideal. On Friday I felt very comfortable, I had one average of just over a ton and I had one around 102, 103 so I can still play."
