Ryan Searle is an exception on the PDC Pro Tour. Where most players throw arrows of between 22 and 24 grams, the 37-year-old Englishman chooses to use 32-gram darts. In his own words, the world number nineteen feels most comfortable with it.
In a new video from PDC Europe, Searle explains the intricacies of his throwing style. "I like to stand over to the right of the oche, toe pointed," begins 'Heavy Metal'. "I don't really think you can teach someone how to play darts. As far as teaching someone how to throw and hold the dart, I don't think you can. I think the first time you throw, how you hold it and how you stand is the most comfortable you'll feel."
As mentioned, Searle throws 32-gram darts, the heaviest of any player in the PDC. "It's just something that I've always felt comfortable with," he explains. "I've changed my points three times but I've not quite found what I'm comfortable with. I'm going through a spell where I seem to have a lot of darts falling onto the floor."
