Often the European Tour crowds in Germany in particular are among some of the most loud and partisan towards their players but both the referee
Huw Ware and also master of ceremonies
Philip Brzezinski had to get involved on Saturday night in Gottingen.
To set the stage, Stephen Bunting was facing off against Niko Springer and went on to be defeated by Meenzur Bub who reached the final day at the
European Darts Trophy.
But Huw Ware had to stop the match halfway through as the whistling was that bad to tell the crowd to shut up. "I've asked politely once and I'll say it politely, shut up please. We're trying to have a game of darts up here," said the PDC referee.
This was very much at a crucial juncture of the game too as Bunting went on to be defeated by Springer 6-5 and it was during the deciding leg that the match was in fact halted.
MC reprimands crowd
But it was in fact post match that this came up again as the long-standing European Tour master of ceremonies Philip Brzezinski also took a stand against members of the crowd whistling.
He singled out four in particular and directly addressed them for ruining the game between Springer and Bunting.
“There are three or four 'noses' (idiots) who ruined a great game with their whistling. To these four people out of 4,000, we say: ‘You’re not welcome here; we don’t want this; we don’t want this," he said on stage translated from German.
While the Germans are known as some of the best crowds on the PDC Tour, also they are often criticised for practices like this with Luke Littler for instance not playing at all in Germany other than majors he needs to appear in due to the treatment in his view he gets from the crowd in the country.
Now it appears even the master of ceremonies has had enough of this and taken a stand in regards to poor crowds ruining games of darts.
