The first semi-final of Week Eight of
Premier League Darts action is confirmed in Birmingham with
James Wade storming past Michael van Gerwen with ease 6-2 to end his stellar run in the city.
Wade averaged 98.8 to topple the league leader who came into this week's tournament having sealed his first ProTour of the season in Niedernhausen but will now head to 2/3 of this weekend's Players Championship tournaments in Barnsley.
The turning point in the tie came when Van Gerwen missed the bull for a 167 checkout and Wade returned for double 20 to go 2-1 up.
Wade went two clear from there at 3-1 before continuing to maintain his two leg cushion which extended to three legs with a 127 checkout on the bull to make it 5-2.
He toyed with the crowd going for the 170 before laying up instead of going for the bull with Van Gerwen way back before pinning double 20 first time to finish off The Green Machine.
Next up will be
Joe Cullen who continued his winning run after claiming last week's Premier League in Rotterdam by seeing off Gerwyn Price.
This in Price's first game since his injury was confirmed with 'The Iceman' needing to wear a splint in the coming weeks but he won't take any further part this week in the Premier League.
It was a superb start from Cullen who surged into a 4-0 lead including a 90 checkout on the bull but Price finally got off and running at 4-1 down with an 86 checkout on the bull and pressured the Bradford ace.
Two missed darts at double allowed Price to make it 4-3 suddenly and ask a question which Cullen answered with a third 180 followed by double 16 to move him to 5-3. Before pinning double six to move through.
