David Schlichting made his debut on the Euro Tour earlier this year. The German was allowed to play in front of his own crowd at the International Darts Open in Riesa after passing the qualification tournament.
In an interview with Dartsnews.de, the 19-year-old dart player from Cologne says he plans to play more PDC tournaments this year.
"I will mainly play on the PDC Challenge Tour and Development Tour in full and any European Tour Qualifier that doesn't clash with the other tournaments in terms of schedule."
If possible, he also wants to participate in some tournaments in the WDF. "If only because I like to travel. Combining that with playing tournaments is a perfect combination for me. I like to travel a day early to see the city. At the PDC, on the other hand, the focus is entirely on the sport."
Schlichting has set himself a modest goal for this season. "I want to qualify for the World Youth Championships (at the PDC). Apart from that, I don't have any real sporting goals this year, except to gain more experience and show my top performances in the PDC more regularly. This year I am much more consistent than before, but sometimes a performance slips through that is really below my level. I have to try and get rid of that. Of course, everyone has worse games, but the difference between my 'C-game' and 'B-game' has to be smaller.
In the long run, the Cologne native, who is currently still studying, wants to become a full-fledged professional. "I definitely want to play on the tour one day and I will do everything I can to achieve that goal. That may sound arrogant to many, but I think you can only do it with that attitude,'' he said.
