Wright punished a missed match dart in the deciding leg to see off his Scottish rival, Gary Anderson 6-5 with a 97.2 average as the World Number One aims to return to form.
He started in style smashing in a 140 checkout for the opening leg but missed darts for Anderson being a theme of the contest and he missed two to break and Wright made it 2-1.
But it was Wright's turn to miss as he made it nine in all as Anderson made it 2-2 and he produced a 132 checkout to sail into a 3-2 lead.
It was three legs on the spin as he made it 4-2 but the Wright comeback began as he smashed in a 156 checkout to make it 4-3.
Anderson came back to make it 5-4 but a decider was forced in which Wright pounced after a missed match dart to sail through.
Next up will be Jonny Clayton with the defending champion sailing through with a 6-1 thrashing of Michael Smith to complete the semi-final line-up.
