Wales keep World Cup of Darts hopes alive with nail-biting pairs decider win over Austria

Former champions Wales (Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton) remain in contention to reclaim the World Cup of Darts but only after a nail biting decider win over Austria, last year's finalists.

It was Price who led from the front in the singles matches by producing some magnificent checkouts en route to edging past Mensur Suljovic 4-3. It began with a 156 checkout but Suljovic produced back-to-back legs to go 2-1 up.

Price drew level but Suljovic went one away with a 78 checkout only for 'The Iceman' to return and produce a 149 checkout to make it 3-3 and finish it off in style with a 142 checkout.

Clayton was less impressive as he fell to Rowby-John Rodriguez which sent the tie all the way as he missed a 136 checkout to break and the Austrian went one away with a 78 checkout before 'The Ferret' missed one dart to send it all the way and Rodriguez sealed it.

But the pairs decider as expected was full of drama as Clayton pinned double 19 to go one away at 3-2 before then missing two darts for the match which sent it all the way.

Wales had the darts though and after missing multiple match darts, Clayton this time dealt with the pressure to move through with Austria well back in the decider.
