For years White has been considered as one of the best players on the floor events, but he was not able yet to bring his Pro Tour form to the major tournaments. Now, the world number ten finally managed to reach the final stages of a PDC major.
Smith struggled to open his legs throughout the match. Bullyboy got away with that in the first set, but then White won seven legs - including two sets - on the spin.
It taken up to the second leg of the fourth set before Smith claimed another leg. The World Championship finalist also leveled the set in the fourth leg, but White secured the win with a 14-dart leg in the decider.
