Michael van Gerwen saw off Jeffrey de Zwaan to qualify for the last eight at the World Grand Prix in Dublin. The Dutchman won in straight sets (3-0) against his compatriot.

The world number one produced a brilliant display against De Zwaan, who beat him twice on television last season. Van Gerwen kicked off spectacular with two 12-darters in the first set and also a stunning 134 finish.

The defending champion came 2-0 ahead in the second set, before De Zwaan halved the deficit with a 12-dart leg of his own. His resurgence came too late to win the set, as the second set went to Mighty Mike with a 14-darter.

In the third set, The Black Cobra took the lead for the first time. The 23-year-old took out 25 to lead 1-0, but Van Gerwen quickly equalized with a 14-dart leg.

After De Zwaan missed seven darts in the third leg to open the leg, the game was over quickly. Van Gerwen fired in a 76 finish for 2-1 and finished off the match with a 17-darter for a place in the quarter-finals, where he will face Mervyn King.
