Williams survives match darts in dramatic last leg decider win over Sedlacek, Horvat edges past Smith

The opening round of the German Darts Open continues with victories for Jim Williams and Dragutin Horvat to conclude the afternoon session in Jena.

A theme of dramatic last leg deciders continued with Williams as the Welshman faced Karel Sedlacek who has been a regular feature and spoiler on the European Tour this year as an East Europe Qualifier.

But not this time as he missed three match darts to defeat Williams who would then return for double four to seal a 6-5 win. This after a thrilling conclusion was set following multiple breaks of throw with no player able to consolidate and this went right to the end with Williams breaking to win. Next up is Jonny Clayton.

While Dragutin Horvat made his return in front of his home crowd and saw off Jeff Smith 6-4. After playing in Budapest last week, 'The Silencer' stayed there to practice but that did not pay off on the doubling front.

Horvat punished costly missed doubles breaking at 3-2 before consolidating on double 20 after Smith had missed darts to break back. 'Hercules' then smashed in a 130 checkout to hold at 5-3 and sealed it on double 10 after Smith had missed darts to break and prolong the tie. He now faces Jose de Sousa.
