Luke Woodhouse and Daniel Larsson are the latest players to move into the second round at the
German Darts Open with Ryan Searle and Luke Humphries now awaiting on Saturday in Jena.
Woodhouse was in superb form as he denied Keane Barry in a thrilling tie to continue the afternoon session. A high scoring and quality game on paper produced just that with a 97 average from 'Woody' as well as four 180's as he edged through in a decider.
To begin the tie, both were broken in the opening two legs but it was Woodhouse who held the slender advantage by consolidating with a 46 checkout.
Despite a pair of 180's from Woodhouse, Barry held his throw after Woodhouse missed 67 and in the following leg, 'Dynamite' seemed to have the impetus as he broke the throw of Woodhouse to make it 5-4.
But a 180 and an 86 checkout saw the Bewdley ace hit straight back and he held from there with a 64 checkout but only after surviving a match dart on the bull.
While Larsson who has produced some of his best form seen on a PDC stage on the
European Tour this season returned to face
Jamie Hughes and sealed a deciding leg win to move through to a tie with the top seed tomorrow.
Larsson broke throw at 2-0 and surged into a 3-0 and 4-1 lead. But Hughes set up a thrilling conclusion by holding twice until 5-3 down and then breaking with a 164 checkout.
Following that, he sent it all the way at 5-5 but a timely 180 from Larsson left 86 when his throw was under pressure in the decider and he sealed it on double 16 to edge past 'Yozza'.
