Humphries lifts World Masters trophy
The Winmau World Masters will continue for the second edition of the revived classic of the longest running darts tournament in the world brought to prominence by the WDF/BDO. It will take place between 28 January - 1 February 2026 with a preliminary round followed by the main tournament starting on the 29th.
The preliminary rounds take into account all the players outside of the top 24 and players also from the PDC's affiliate tours. They will battle for eight spots in the main draw to join the top 24 players to make up a 32 player field.
The top 24 players from the PDC Order of Merit qualify automatically for the final stage which will see Luke Littler, Gian van Veen, Luke Humphries who is defending champion and Michael van Gerwen lead the way.
Humphries won the title last year dismissing Jonny Clayton narrowly 6-5 in sets in the final. It was a complete revamp of the famous competition as it went from The Masters to the World Masters emulating the World Masters which was first held in 195 and organised by the BDO and saw a change in format to the traditional set play over leg play.
It starts with a best of three sets and goes all the way to the final where it goes to 11 also known as first to six sets. The prize money remains unchanged with £100,000 going to the winner. In addition, it will be £50,000 for the runner-up.
Semi-finalists receive £30,000. While for Quarter-Finalists, it will be £17,500. Second round losers receive £10.000. While for losing in the first round proper it is £5,000. For losing in the Last 64, it is a paltry £750 for competing at Arena MK over that first day showing the riches that are on offer for reaching the latter stage.
