Evans seals important win over Kleermaker, Brooks impresses with Williams victory at German Darts Open

The German Darts Open has begun in Jena with David Evans and Bradley Brooks moving through to the second round after impressive wins to begin this weekend’s action.

Evans who has not had the best year and a half since becoming a Tour Card holder produced a superb display to see off Martijn Kleermaker with Dimitri van den Bergh now up next. It was a 6-3 victory for ‘Stretch’ who averaged 84 in the end with 35% on his doubles compared to 18% (3/16) from the Dutchman proving pivotal.

A 140 followed by a 170 checkout kicked it off at 2-0 for a break for Evans who also sealed one at 4-0 up. He went 5-1 up from there before being broken when throwing for the match with a 130 checkout but next time around when throwing for it, he sealed It 6-3 with a 48 checkout.

While coming into this weekend, Scott Williams was one of the top names involved in this session and not only for his yellow shoes but due to the form he has shown this year compared to his opponent Bradley Brooks.

But Brooks was superb averaging 95 in a 6-3 win to see off ‘Shaggy’ with two 180’s and 46% on his doubles as he moves through to a tie against Dave Chisnall.

Brooks pinned double 16 to seal an opening break. This was consolidated with a 140 leaving 80 which he pinned going treble and double on 16.

Williams missed 72 to get his first leg on the board but Brooks could not capitalise missing two darts to break again and ‘Shaggy’ made it 2-1.

But that break continued to be the difference maker as both held their throw to make it 4-3 up to Brooks. This continued as ‘Bam Bam’ went one away with a 136 checkout. Another break was forthcoming as Brooks hit 60 to seal it.
