Last year,
Gabriel Clemens had his landmark run reaching the semi-finals of the PDC
World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace and in his quest to back up those exploits again, he has reached the third round.
He has taken down Hong Kong thrower, Man Lok Leung in a 3-1 sets win for 'The German Giant'. It wasn't vintage Clemens with a 90 average but he averted a tough test against the former who impressed so many last round.
Clemens started superbly in a statement opening set salvo. He produced a 140 checkout to close out the opening set 3-1 with a 100 average and 75% on the doubles. It was clinical doubling as the name of the game as he piled in a 120 checkout twice in a set to go one away from the next round.
But in came the resolve from 'Hugo' as Leung railroaded Clemens with ease to potentially put doubt in his mind and prolong the tie. He won three straight legs to halve the deficit with four 180's to his name.
This though proved a mere consolation in the context of the contest. Clemens won three straight legs with a 14-dart 56 checkout, 54 checkout 15 darter and a last dart double 16 off 43 to claim the win.
