Robert Owen was responsible for the highest average of the tournament at
Players Championship 14 on Wednesday. The Welshman threw an average of 115.85 in his third match.
After wins over Jermaine Wattimena (6-4) and Ritchie Edhouse (6-4), Owen faced Ryan Searle in the third round. Owen crushed his English opponent 6-1 thanks in part to two 11-darters and two 12-darters.
Owen was one of three darters to record an average above 110. This also succeeded Ryan Joyce and Dom Taylor. Joyce threw an average of 111.48 in his quarterfinal against Josh Rock. That game was won 6-1 by Joyce.
Taylor produced an average of 110.71 in his fourth game against Jonny Clayton, but that average proved not enough for a victory. He lost 6-2 to Jonny Clayton, who threw 107.32 himself. That average was good for fourth place on the list.
Clayton would eventually win the tournament by defeating Wesley Plaisier 8-5 in the final. In the final, Clayton came up with an average of 106.05, and that average finished sixth on the list. Dimitri van den Bergh finished fifth on the list of highest
averages at Players Championship 14 with his average of 107.05, but 'The Dreammaker' went down 6-4 against Simon Whitlock in the first round.
