Peter Wright will be the new World Number One from Monday onwards after the UK Open with 'Snakebite' taking over from
Gerwyn Price, who has held the top spot for 14 months.
Price had to reach the final to keep his World Number One spot for the time being however 'The Iceman' lost to Michael Smith in the Quarter-Finals.
Wright however didn't win it like he wanted with 'Snakebite' being gifted it for that reason after going out in the Last 16 to William O'Connor.
He is the first Scot to hold the accolade and is the 11th different World Number One in the PDC. Alan Warriner-Little was the first player back in 1993.
Then followed Dennis Priestley, Rod Harrington, Phil Taylor, Peter Manley, John Part, Colin Lloyd, Raymond van Barneveld, Michael van Gerwen and then Price.
Taylor has been at number one for the longest time with a total of 3,351 days. His longest run was from June 8, 2008 to January 1, 2014, a period of 2033 days.
The longest consecutive streak at the top is in the hands of Van Gerwen. From January 1, 2014 to January 3, 2021, the Dutchman was the best darts player in the world for no less than 2,559 days in a row.
