Wright can live with new status: "It’s good, I like being the underdog"

Finishing bottom of the Premier League Darts table and with just a sole title on each of the European Tour and the World Series, it's fair to say Peter Wright hasn't started 2023 in the best of form.

Nevertheless, Wright is confident he can use this to his advantage and benefit from his new underdog status, starting at the US Darts Masters. "I'm privileged to be invited again. There's many other players around that could have been picked," he tells Online Darts. "Hopefully I can put up a decent performance and show these youngsters how it's done."

"It's good I like being the underdog. I hate being favourite," he continues. "I know I've got more experience and know what to do better than most of these guys here. There's only a handful as experienced, like MVG to be honest. All the rest of them are still learning."

Wright takes on the Canadian, former Lakeside finalist Jeff Smith in the first round at the famed sporting arena, Madison Square Gardens. "I've got a few things planned that could potentially made me game a whole lot better," Wright adds.
