On the second day of the final phase of the
European Q-School, there was finally Dutch success.
Jeffrey Sparidaans secured a PDC
Tour Card for the next two years. The 32-year-old Dutchman won his decisive match against Italy’s Michele Turetta 6-5. It was far from straightforward, as Sparidaans, just like on the opening day, missed several match darts.
A day earlier, Sparidaans narrowly missed out on a PDC
Tour Card after losing his decisive match 6-5 to Arno Merk, the German who made a big impression at the World Darts Championship last month. But on day two it all clicked, and Sparidaans returns to the
Pro Tour after a year away.
“I actually slept good last night,"
Sparidaans smiled afterwards in conversation with the PDC when the topic of those missed darts the previous day were mentioned.
"I was thinking about the first round, when I survived five match darts. After that I played good, but yeah, four missed match darts in the final. But I went to sleep and this morning, I felt good."
More match darts missed
In his decisive match on Day Two, things looked very good for Sparidaans for a long time, as he raced into a 5-1 lead. He then saw Turetta fight back to 5-5, helped in part by a stunning 170 finish from the Italian and 15(!) more missed
Tour Card darts from Sparidaans.
"Yeah I missed a couple of match darts..." Sparidaans laughs. "I was thinking about yesterday and those four misses. I just said I need to take care of this next dart out and yeah, I got it."
Sparidaans previously held a PDC
Tour Card between 2023 and 2024. “It feels great to be back,” he said. “What will I do differently? I’ll try to stay calmer at key moments. In the past I’ve lost too many tight matches, and that’s definitely something to work on for the future.”
