"You can still see the confidence is fragile with him" - Vincent van der Voort on Michael van Gerwen's disappointing performance at Winmau World Masters
Michael van Gerwen reached the final of the World Darts Championship after a difficult period last month. He went down 7-3 to Luke Littler, but still Van Gerwen showed that he was to be reckoned with. The 35-year-old Dutchman seemed to return to the top form of old, but last weekend things went wrong again. Day also saw his good friend Vincent van der Voort.

Van Gerwen was active at the Winmau World Masters last weekend. In the opening round, he won 3-1 over Bradley Brooks, but a round later he went down 4-3 against Dimitri Van den Bergh. "Those first two legs he was playing fantastic," Van der Voort said in the podcast 'Darts Draait Door'.

"You can still see that confidence is fragile with him. When things are going his way and everything is going his way, he throws really well. But when he gets a little hit, you see his level going down again. I do feel that it is getting better and better and that it is coming, but you can't keep relying on that."
Van der Voort realizes that his mate still needs some time, but does say that time is running out "I hope it will be in a month or a month and a half. Then it should be really good again."
"It's heartbreaking, just last year I thought he played very mediocre very often and now his throw was smooth again. Mentally he is not yet where he should be, but those are details. That's continuing to train, fine-tune a little bit more and then I think there are some very nice things coming up again."
