Van Gerwen remains on course for fifth World Grand Prix title with victory over King

The Dutchman survived three missed set darts by King in the first set, before he took out double 9 to claim the first set. Both players hit a 170 finish in the second set, but King landed The Big Fish to level the match (1-1).

Van Gerwen took the lead back in the third set as he hit a 75 finish and a 13-darter to lead 2-1, before hitting double 19 to claim the third set. King kicked off the fourth set with a superb 132 finish, but missed two chances to break Mighty Mike's throw.

The world number one hit double 1 to make 1-1, but King regained the lead as he hit double 5 for 2-1. The Norfolk ace then missed another chance to break his Dutch opponent with a 118 checkout.

That mistake turned out to be fatal to him, because Van Gerwen kept his own leg via double 8 and then broke King with a 14-darter to win the match. The reigning world champion will face Chris Dobey in the semi-finals on Friday evening. Hollywood edged out Ian White to move into his maiden televised semi-final.
