Participant field for Australian Darts Open 2023 largely known

The World Darts Federation (WDF) and Darts Australia have announced much of the field of participants for the Australian Darts Open.

This event is considered one of the top tournaments within the WDF and includes a prize pool of over 30,000 euros. The Australian Darts Open is scheduled from Monday, August 14 to Saturday, August 19 in the Australian state of New South Wales.

The men's field of competitors is led by defending champion Raymond Smith. In addition, Andy Baetens, Haupai Puha and Neil Duff have received wildcards for the Australian Darts Open. Peter Machin, Danny Porter, Jonny Tata and Tahuna Irwin are also among the eight seeded players.

They are immediately admitted to the second round of the tournament. In the first round, the eight winners of the so-called State Qualifiers will take on eight local qualifiers. Because two State Qualifiers were unable to advance, Aaron Morrison and Brandon Weening received invitations to do so. So they do start the tournament from the first round.

Among the women, Beau Greaves, Mikuru Suzuki and Rhian O'Sullivan declined wildcards. Four-time women's world champion Lisa Ashton and former World Masters winner Aileen de Graaf do make the crossing to Australia. Kym Mitchell and Wendy Harper are the other women's series heads.

A total of 12 players are competing in the women's tournament. Melina van den Kieboom, Nicole Regnoud, Joanne Hadley and Christine Sheerin will start as well as four local qualifiers in the first round.
