Beau Greaves won the second ever edition of the Women's World Matchplay last weekend. In the final, she dominated Mikuru Suzuki in a 6-1 victory.
Greaves is also still reigning women's world champion at the World Darts Federation (WDF). "Having the World Matchplay is a big bonus for us ladies. The WDF are so uncertain with most things it's hard to gauge when you are going to be playing again," Greaves said. "I think we're all used to not being on TV that much anyway so we all sort of know what's going to happen."
"That's why it's so important that the PDC is giving us additional opportunities with the Women's Series and the Women's World Matchplay," the 19-year-old Englishwoman continued.
Greaves also mentions how she feels the Women's World Matchplay field could be increased from the eight players it is currently. "I think there's room for more and it would be good to have more in and see different faces."
I really enjoyed the event, actually much more than the men's. It's nice seeing players you haven't seen for a while and much more interesting. The WDF seems to be dead in the water. The PDC could do televised ladies events alongside the mens at more events. I enjoy watching most darts on TV so why can't we have more. The ladies barely play to crowds and more events would help improve the standard as all the players seemed nervous in Blackpool. We get women's football rammed down our throats why not more darts. I think ultimately mixed events will never work. It's OK as a one off at the World Championships when the lady players will always have the crowd on their side, but time for a proper ladies Championship. It will be another year excluding the MODUS that we'll see most of the these ladies. Beau was great, Mikuru was excellent first game. Robyn played well and the 95 check out was superb.
