Mitchell Lawrie at Lakeside.
Semi-Final Saturday at the illustrious Lakeside produced tomorrow's finals and in particular a touted showdown as 15-year-old Mitchell Lawrie could become a two-time World Champion as he plays in both the men's and boys finals.
Lawrie played this afternoon at Lakeside sealing his spot in the men's final and returned perhaps for an even better tie on paper as he faced Kaya Baysal. One of his close friends and also a real rising star of the system who has also won senior titles like Lawrie this year.
But it was a 3-0 win for 'Wee Sox' who now faces German ace Florian Preis tomorrow. To start the tie he wasn't at his free flowing best but he took the opening set against Baysal punishing seven missed set darts from his opponent.

Incredible Lawrie into two finals

He took the second easily but the third was when Baysal started to show resolve. He hit 140, 140 and double 12 for a 13-darter to go 1-0 up and then broke Lawrie's throw with a 14 darter after missing 170.
Lawrie though broke straight back hitting a 180 and double 16 after pinning 104 before sealing the win on double 20 after hitting 137 from 177 to leave it. He now faces the German tomorrow in the first of two finals.
The other final he will play will be against Jimmy van Schie with the top seed making light work of the Belgian lucky loser so to speak in Sybren Gijbels who wasn't even meant to be in the tournament. He won through 5-1 in sets.
Van Schie raced into a 1-0 lead taking the opening set with finishes of 76 and 86. But having lost the first set 3-0, Gijbels won the second by the same scoreline sealing it with a 121 checkout.
But while it followed a pattern, it was one that saw Van Schie hit the afterburners. He took the third set 3-0 with legs of 15, 17 and 14 darts to move back in front at 2-1. But he was rampant from there going seven darts into a perfect leg and winning the fourth set to extend his lead to 3-1 with a 94 average and 5 180's.
Despite busting his score, he hit a 17-darter after hitting a 140 and 180 en route to breaking to begin the next set and he swept the set from there with a 13-darter to win it comprising of a 100, two 140's, a 105 and double eight to seal it. Superb from the Dutchman.

Rietbergen joins Van Schie in final

It could be a double Dutch winner tomorrow in the men's and women's if both Van Schie and now Lerena Rietbergen. Both ironically top seeds manage to win their finals.
Rietbergen will face Deta Hedman who will look to claim the one part of her collection she is missing in the Lakeside title. She has won almost everything the game has to offer apart from this and like James Wade is in the men's game is the best female never to win a World title.
But she gets her chance tomorrow against Rietbergen who took down Rhian O'Sullivan in a nerve jangling 3-2 win in which she came from two sets down to secure a showdown with Hedman.

O'Sullivan took the opening set of the second semi-final hitting checkouts of 76 and 105 along the way and she looked likely to be heading towards the final. She doubled her lead punishing a missed set dart from Rietbergen to go 2-0 up.
But Rietbergen came right back as she halved the deficit producing a superb 96 checkout with her last dart to take the third set and make it 2-1. Rietbergen left O'Sullivan scrambling as she survived a match darta dn hit double seven to take the fourth set.
Again O'Sullivan went one away but Rietbergen pounced to turn it around and get over the line in what was a real missed opportunity from the Welshwoman.
While Zehra Gemi made sure there will be a new girls champion as Paige Pauling, the defending champion was dethroned. The Turkish ace will now face Irish talent Rebecca Allen tomorrow in the final.
She won 2-1 coming from a set down. After dropping the opener, she won six out of the next seven legs emphatically to ensure there will be a new World Champion.
She also becomes the first Turkish player to reach a World Championship final with both proving that the future is very much bright in the ladies game as like the boys and as Paige Pauling proved in the ladies, they wouldn't look out of place in the main event.
