Peter Wright has revealed that he is looking into potential eye surgery in the next week following his exit from the World Matchplay in the second round.

Wright began wearing glasses in the PDC Summer Series and it worked winning an event but when he returned to the big stage, he took them off when he was losing to Jose de Sousa. He went without them against Glen Durrant losing 11-8.

But he has since spoke about an appointment booked ahead of the Premier League which begins again in a months’ time.

“The glasses had to go!” Wright said in an interview with Betfred. “It was alright in the floor tournaments but it was very difficult up on stage.

“Gary [Anderson] said he used to get light coming through from the side and it looked like someone was pointing a laser from off the stage, but it was the lights.

“Hopefully I can get it sorted – I’ve talked to Michael Smith as well. I didn’t realise he wore contacts, but I can’t see me putting anything in my eye – I don’t fancy that!

“I’ve made an appointment for next week and we’ll see what they say. Hopefully with two or three weeks before the Premier League starts, I’ll have new eyes.”
