Ross Montgomery has emerged victorious at the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship. The 62-year-old Scot defeated Graham Usher 5-1 in the final on Saturday night at the Circus Tavern.

Visibly emotional afterwards, the former Finder Darts Masters and two-time Dutch Open winner reflected on potentially the biggest win of his career to date. “I’ve loved every single minute of it,” said the 62-year-old Montgomery. “I came here with the fantastic news I’m going to be a grandad. I dedicate this to my two grandchildren that are coming soon."

With this title win, Montgomery also continues the run of Scottish winners of the World Seniors Darts Championship. Robert Thornton took the first two titles in 2022 and 2023, before John Henderson emerged victorious in 2024 and now Montgomery, who actually knocked Thornton out in the quarter-finals, adds another Scottish name to the honour roll. "It’s going to be a good year but I don’t know if I’ve got time to play darts. They don’t put averages on trophies. There are fantastic players in the seniors that have been here long before. Honestly, I’m over the moon," 'The Boss' assesses.

During the final, there was a moment of contention in the deciding leg of the third set. Usher missed nine darts to take the set before Montgomery swooped in to punish and move 2-1 up himself. It was what the Scot did afterwards that caused a little controversy though. Montgomery took his darts out of the board, walked over to Usher, pointed to his own temple and told the Englishman to calm down whilst patting his opponent on the chest, much to Usher's visible confusion. Montgomery insists though, there were no mind-games or sportsmanship at play. He genuinely just wanted Usher to play his best.

“Graham has kicked my arse many times because he’s a fantastic player. I told him on stage ‘Graham, just calm down and be yourself son’," Montgomery explains. “If you win, you win. Just calm down. This is all about a game of darts. Graham is a fantastic player; he will be back. He will be kicking backsides."

As for the future, Montogomery is unsure what will come next. “Winning this, it’s got to be the icing on the cake, then I’ll need to sit down and discuss what’s happening," he concludes. "It could be a good end to my career.”
