Paul Hogan and
John Henderson have become the first two names to secure a spot in the semifinals of the 2024
World Seniors Darts Masters in Sunderland.
In a high quality opening to the afternoon session,
Martin Adams kicked things off with a brilliant 13 dart leg in his match against Paul Hogan. Nevertheless, it was Hogan
who took the opening set, firing back strongly with legs of 18 and 15. There was no question who was playing the better darts and Adams responded in style in the second set, racing through it and upping his average to over 95 in the process.
Opening set 3 with another 14 darter, that average for 'Wolfie' rose even higher. Despite Hogan levelling the set in the next leg, it was Adams who took the decider to get his nose infront at 2-1 up. As the standard began to drop slightly in set 4, again a deciding leg was required and this time, Hogan was the man to take it, levelling the score at 2-2.
Showing the qualities he did so often on the Lakeside stage in past years though, Adams was able to put that disappointment quickly out of his mind, and raced through set 5 in just 31 darts all told to get himself back into the lead. After Hogan helf throw in the opener of set 6, Adams responded in kind in leg to send the set to a third leg. With Adams on the brink of victory, Hogan held firm to level up the scores again at 3-3. From there, Hogan simply didn't look back, taking the deciding set in back to back legs to emerge victorious.
Joining Hogan in the last four of this WSDT tournament is the Seniors world champion, John Henderson. The Scot was far too good for
Matt Clark in his quarterfinal contest, averaging over 92 despite some faffing over the winning double and losing just three legs in a 4-0 victory.
