After the exciting opening to the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship at the iconic Circus Tavern on Wednesday night, the action continues this Thursday with a mouth-watering double session including some of the darting stars of yesteryear.
With the afternoon session starting at 1pm local time and the evening getting underway at 7pm, all the action will be available to watch via the BBC iPlayer/BBC Sport website or app, on TNT Sports 4, or via the subscription service Discovery+.
Originally eight matches were to be played but still there is one change in the playing schedule. The scheduled match between Vincent van der Voort and Neil Duff will not go ahead. Van der Voort has had to withdraw due to injury, which means Duff will advance to the second round without playing.
Richard-Eirig Rowlands v Graham Usher
Kicking off the darting action for the day, Welshman Richard-Eirig Rowlands faces off against former PDC Tour Card holder, Graham Usher. Usher was unable to regain to Tour Card at Q-School earlier this year, and in the tricky and methodical Rowlands, the Englishman is unlikely to have things all his own way. Rowlands reached the semifinals of the World Seniors Darts Masters in 2024, proving himself a genuine threat on the Seniors Circuit.
Ross Montgomery v Trina Gulliver
The most successful female darter of all time makes her return to the World Seniors Darts Championship on Thursday afternoon. Trina Gulliver is yet to make a real impact in her Seniors Darts appearances to date, and in the experienced Scot Ross Montgomery she could find things difficult once again. ‘The Boss’ is a former major winner with the BDO and won a PDC Tour Card at Q-School as recently as 2022 before dropping off the professional circuit.
Derek Coulson v Mervyn King
One of the most highly anticipated matches in the entire first round sees Mervyn King make his World Seniors Tour debut. The two-time Lakeside finalist had been among the top of the darting scene for more than two decades before dropping off the PDC Pro Tour at the end of 2024. Don't think that means ‘The King's a spent force though. The Englishman has already started strongly on the Challenge Tour in 2025, earning an immediate Pro Tour return as replacement. Given his recent match practice this week at Players Championship 3 + 4 in Rosmalen, King will start as heavy favourite against Welshman Derek Coulson.
Two icons of the Lakeside Country Club, Martin Adams and Darryl Fitton are set to battle on the Circus Tavern stage to open the Thursday evening session. Adams has had more success than Fitton on the Seniors Tour to date, but both remain titleless. Whoever manages to get the best of this one could see the draw open up however, with the winner facing off against two-time World Seniors Darts Championship winner Robert Thornton in the next round.
Colin McGarry proved the surprise package of the 2024 World Seniors Darts Championship, going all the way to the final before losing out to John Henderson. It's fair to say all eyes will be on McGarry's opponent in this one though, as the legendary Steve Beaton makes his debut on the Seniors Tour. One of the most iconic figures in the sport, Beaton will be making his record-extending 34th appearance at a World Darts Championship.
Kevin Painter v Richie Burnett
Rounding out the afternoon session, two of the sport's most volatile figures go head to head. Painter has proven himself one of the stars of the Seniors Tour in the past, reaching the semi-finals of the World Seniors Darts Championship on two occasions. On his last TV appearance though, The Artist was visibly struggling against the symptoms of dartitis at the 2024 World Seniors Matchplay. If Painter has similar issues here, former Lakeside champion Richie Burnett will likely punish. The Welshman has been active already this year at Q-School and on the MODUS Super Series, showing he is still more than capable of throwing at a dangerous level.
Finally, to close out the night's action, Mark Dudbridge returns to the stage where he faced Phil Taylor in the final of the 2005 PDC World Darts Championship against Chris Mason, who swaps the commentator's microphone for his darts once again. Both have experience of the World Seniors Darts Championship with Dudbridge a two-time quarter-finalist, whilst Mason also reached the last eight twelve months ago.
