World Seniors Darts Championship returns in 2025, but with a lot fewer wildcards for darts legends

The World Seniors Darts Tour (WSDT) has announced that it will host another World Seniors Darts Championship in 2025. This edition will take place from Feb. 20 to 22.

The tournament has been shortened by one day and the field of participants will also be reduced from 32 to 24 players. That's not the only change. Players will largely have to earn their own spots at the tournament.

At the recent edition of the World Seniors Darts Championship, 26 of the 32 starting spots were given away via wildcards. For the World Seniors Darts Championship 2025, only four more wildcards will be handed out to darts legends.

The WSDT has announced that, effective immediately, the current Order of Merit will be considered the official world ranking at the WSDT. The top-12 in this ranking at the end of 2024 will receive an invitation to participate in the World Seniors Darts Championship.

In addition, four players may also compete via the Open Series Order of Merit and, in addition, four more qualifying tournaments will be played in January 2025. The final four starting spots will be distributed by invitation. Well-known names from the past who are not going down the ranking cycle thus still have a small chance of participating via this route.
