BDO World Darts Championship 2019 schedule: Monday 7 January

Day three of the 2019 BDO World Championship sees two former world finalists feature at the Lakeside.

One of them has never even played at the Lakeside. Andy Hamilton, former PDC world runner-up, is new on the Frimley Green scene. A switch between codes has proved revitalising for the Hammer. His BDO World Championship debut is, on paper, a straightforward tie. David Cameron isn't too popular a figure, given the Brexit shambles. Actually, that might be the other one. This one, a 49-year-old thrower from Nova Scotia, doesn't get on well with this tournament. He has turned up five times, winning just one game. But in the Canadian's defence, last year he did fall to eventual semi-finalist Michael Unterbuchner - and took two sets . Hamilton better not assume a first round meeting with Gary Robson is secured just yet. Oliver Ferenc and Ryan Hogarth also make their World Championship bow on Monday afternoon. Hogarth, the 26-year-old Scot, caused a shock by beating Gary Robson at the World Trophy in 2018. His Serbian opponent has a brief Ally Pally sojourn six years ago to use as big stage experience. The final tie of the afternoon could be a real thriller. Willem Mandigers has plenty of talent, but hasn't shown it at the Lakeside yet - in fact, he only won his first game here 12 months ago. There'll be no room for error against Paul Hogan. Crocodile Dundee came achingly close to stunning eventual champion Glen Durrant two years ago. If he comes through winnable games against Mandigers and Wesley Harms, he could go on a serious run.

What a difference a year makes for Michael Unterbuchner. A year ago, he was a relative unknown. Then a magnificent run to the semi-finals, with David Cameron, Jamie Hughes, Martin Phillips and Richard Veenstra all left in his wake, propelled the German up the rankings. Since then he has become a World Trophy finalist and a Grand Slam quarter-finalist. It means that he's the fifth seed, and the clear favourite against Justin Thompson. But the Aussie against compatriot Mal Cuming. Can Unterbuchner deal with turning from David into Goliath? Anatasia Dobromyslova, the three-time world champion, is back for another tilt at Lakeside glory. The good news is that title rivals Lisa Ashton and Deta Hedman have exited before the Russian has even thrown a dart. That said, she can't get ahead of herself yet. Laura Turner is no Ryan Joyce, but she secured an impressive British Classic triumph a few months back and will want to take another major scalp on debut. Jim Williams sets off on a potential semi-final collision course with Glen Durrant; he plays Roger Janssen in the first round. The Belgian secured an impressive 3-0 preliminary round win over Wouter Vaes. Then in the final tie, 14th seed Daniel Day takes on dangerous Welsh ace Dean Reynolds. Reynolds was 12th seed last year, but wasn't among the top 16 this time around.
