The Polish pairing of Ratajski and Kanik claimed a 5-1 win; they set their stall out early doors against the potentially dangerous pair of Karel Sedlacek and Pavel Jirkal who have been in good form individually this year with a 3-0 lead.
Their dominance was underlined with them not allowing the Czech pair a single dart at double up to this point. They did get their first one on the board though; but this early passage of play set Ratajski and Kanik up with the former putting them 4-1 up and within a leg of victory.
Czech Republic smashed in a 160 checkout to go 4-2 behind; but it was too little too late with the Polish pairing winning 5-2 with a 92 average and 55 percent on the doubles.
Following that, potential outsiders in Republic of Ireland comprising of recent first time ranking winner, William O'Connor and Euro Tour finalist, Steve Lennon; were facing Greece who had John Michael and Veniamin Symeonidis.
Lennon claimed the first leg for the team with a double 15 shot which was expertly hit by the Carlow ace. Symeonidis settled down hitting tops to level up from there.
O'Connor was playing brilliantly; but both teams started to miss doubles. 'The Magpie' though hit double 1 in the end to go 3-1 up and claim a break. He extended that lead to 4-1 with double two and from there they secured the win.
