A selection of darts' best and brightest will swap the tungsten for rods at the 2018
PDC Fishing Championship. The invitational event will see some big names competing for glory at a very different lakeside. As well as competing for glory, the competitors will be raising money for the event's chosen charity, which this year is Parkinson's UK.
There are six sporting world champions taking part - though Steve Davis and Mark Williams are the odd ones out, having won their titles on the baize. Williams, the 2018 snooker world champion, is joined by his darting equivalent, Rob Cross. Gary Anderson, the two-time PDC world champion, will also appear at Gold Valley Lakes in Aldershot. They're joined by former BDO world champions Scott Mitchell and Scott Waites.
James Wade will take part, alongside wife and former walk-on girl Sammi Marsh-Wade. Darren Webster and Michael Smith feature, as do Chris Dobey and Ian White. To date, Webster is the only darts player to claim the PDC Fishing Championship. JDC chairman Steve Brown and commentator Chris Mason add to the darting contingent. Richie Howson, currently playing on the Challenge Tour, completes the set.
PDC chairman Barry Hearn is on the roster, as is son and renowned boxing promoter Eddie Hearn. There's a strong boxing contingent in the 2018. Heavyweight Dillian Whyte is joined by former European Super Bantamweight champion Spencer Oliver, who won this event in 2014, and Paul Smith Jnr.
Ian McCullouch and Ian Burns are two entrants representing snooker. Basketball will have a representative too, in the form of Surrey Scorchers captain Tayo Ogedenbe. Among the rest of the field are actor Jake Wood, ex-Commonwealth gold medallist (and 2016 winner) Dean Macey, and 2015 PDC Fishing Championship champion Steve Collett - a professional angler.
