Burnett third oldest player at this year’s PDC World Darts Championship

Richie Burnett has managed to qualify for the PDC World Darts Championship in the nick of time. The 55-year-old Welshman won one of the three places available at the final qualifying tournament.

Burnett defeated David Evans 7-3 in his deciding match, allowing him to travel to Alexandra Palace for the first time since 2014. The Prince of Wales then went down 4-3 against Ian White in the third round.

For Burnett, it will be his 16th participation in a World Championship. In the past, he was there five times at the BDO World Championship (winner in 1995) and 10 times at the PDC World Championship (quarter-finals in 2002 and 2003). Following a positive cocaine test in 2014, Burnett was suspended for 18 months.

At 55 years and 9 months, Burnett will be the third oldest player at the upcoming PDC World Championship. Only Mervyn King (56) and Steve Beaton (58) are older.
