Gerwyn Price has spoken out strongly after he was targeted on social media by an angry bettor following his exit at the US Darts Masters. The Welshman chose not to leave the abusive messages unanswered and publicly exposed the sender.

The current world number seven fell in the quarterfinals of the US Darts Masters in New York. Price lost 6-3 to James Wade despite an excellent 103.93 average. His strong display, however, was not enough to stop a frustrated bettor from venting on Facebook.
The man, who claimed he had wagered money on a Price win, sent the Welshman a string of vile insults. "What the f*** was that utter w***. Do you actually know people put their money on you to win games?"
“That was a f****** joke. Wow. DID YOU ACTUALLY TRY?" The messages continued. "Sick of this now. I fancied beating you there. Why don't you just give it up?"

Price shares the sender’s identity

Price didn’t leave it at that. On social media he posted a screenshot of the message, which also showed the sender’s profile pictures and family photos.
The former world champion replied with heavy sarcasm. “Ben Davies didn't lose a bet did u buddy?” wrote Price, followed by several laughing emojis. He then added: “Absolute 🔔 and I hope all these people in the photos are very proud of you you absolute piece of 💩 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😂😂😂😂"

It didn’t stop there. Shortly afterwards, Price reported that the sender had already blocked him. “Must of hit the spot good and proper, can everyone tag him in the post." wrote ‘The Iceman’ next.

Growing problem within darts

The incident is not isolated. Increasingly, professional darters face abuse and threats from disappointed bettors on social media after a defeat. Several top players have already spoken out in recent years about the growing volume of online abuse they face after matches.
Although Price produced an excellent level in New York, that proved no shield against the frustrations of people losing money on sports bets. His public response shows that more players are choosing not to accept such forms of online intimidation in silence any longer.
